Why we love long days

You may work long days, but look on the bright side - so many ways to make the most of the time off. Here are 10 of our favourites. What are yours?
-
It's efficient
If you do all your work in big blocks you get to have big blocks of days off.
-
Get away
You can go on mini breaks wherever the offers are (cheap flight to Reykjavik anyone?).
-
Take up a hobby
You can really get into a hobby, write a novel, learn Spanish, build a spaceship (ok, not a real one)…
-
52 Bank Holidays
You have the equivalent of a long bank holiday weekend every single week.
-
It could be worse...
Most people work long days nowadays in ‘normal’ jobs, especially if you include commuting time. But, they do it 5 days a week.
-
Beat the rush

You finish early enough to still have most of the evening free.
-
Go against the flow (just this once)
Long days means, week days off. You get to go shopping when the shops aren’t crowded.
-
Off peak prices
You can go to Alton Towers, The Tower of London, or Blackpool Tower when there are no queues and at ‘off peak’ rates. Go on your favourite ride then ride back to go on again.
-
Indulge in a little schadenfreude
In the summer you can sit in the sun on your days off and laugh to yourself about what office workers are currently up to, while your biggest dilemma is whether to have a cup of tea or something with ice in it.

I'm going to tell my friends this. They think my life's all dull and duty, but on a good day I know my life's actually got more to offer than theirs has. I reckon we could write a book about all the out of work sides to being a nurse that people don't know about. It would change how they see us, It's not all wiping bums and clearing up.
